EFFECTS OF CHILD LABOUR ON SOCIAL BEHAVIOR OF CHILDREN

The research was conducted on the effects of child labour on the social behavior of children, a case study of Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State. This is aimed at finding out the reasons children are engaged in child labour and how it affects their social behaviour. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study whereby data were collected through the distribution of 34 items structured questionnaire to 138 adults and 262 children making up 400 respondents from 4 major roads and streets of Port Harcourt metropolis using stratified random sampling methods.
The findings are subdivided into 2 parts, thus, part one (1) for children, while part two (2) for adults. From the results of the findings, it shows that 52.8% of the children are males, which goes to say that males are more engaged in a laborious work. Most of the children who hawk were in the age range of 11-18 years representing the overall total number of the respondents (220, 84.0%). Majority of them had primary education.
