The internet has undergone rapid development, with significant effects on social life and on modes of communication. Social network refers to the means of interaction among people in which they create, share and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities. It is observed that students devote more time to social network than they do to their studies. It is a common sight to see students chatting in sensitive and highly organized places like church, mosque and lecture venues.  The study also focuses to assess the positive and negative effects of social network on students’ academic performance. To achieve this, the survey research method was used. Subjects were drawn from the SHIM NAUTH Nnewi, using the simple random sampling technique and purposive sampling. Four research questions guided the study.
